After that deal, about a month had passed. It took a while to adjust to the new life. The first part was being the test subject.

"Are you sure I'll be fine?" [Solace]

"Not at all." [Lapis]

Pulling a lever, I was dunked down into a vat of acid.

"Owww!! It burns!" [Solace]

"You have acquired |Corrosion Resistance|." [Spirit Guide]

Then another time I was thrown into a jar of lighting. Like, it was a normal sized jar.

"What's that?" [Solace]

"Lightning in a bottle." [Lapis]

It was as she said. There was a purple spark darting around within a glass jar.

"...Those are real?" [Solace]

"Indeed. Take a look." [Lapis]

Taking off the lid, a gust of wind started to pull me in.

"Ayo?!" [Solace]

I suddenly found myself shrunken down to size, stuck within the bottle. I looked up, only to see that Lapis had closed the lid on me.

"Lapi- ow!" [Solace]

I felt a shocking sensation from my side. It then appeared on my other side, which proceeded to continue to my back and legs.

"You have gained |Experience|. |Shock Resistance| has gained a level." [Spirit Guide]

"The lightning?!" [Solace]

The lightning trapped in the jar jumped around striking me at random.

"Lapis! Let me out damn it!" [Solace]

A few days after that, she fed me poison.

"You have gained |Experience|. |Poison Resistance| has gained a level." [Spirit Guide]

Sitting at the dinner table, I dropped my fork as I stared at my steak.

"...Lapis? What did you put in my food?" [Solace]

Though I looked at her with concern for my well being, she sat there writing something down in a notepad.

"It appears spirits cannot detect poison unless it is consumed directly… Interesting." [Lapis]

My days were spent building resistances due to her curiosity, but that wasn't the only thing I did. During my stay, I also continued to train my |Analyze| at night which had finally hit level 8 recently.

"|Analyze|." [Solace]

Even though I thought my skill was at a pretty high level, I still couldn't begin to see a speck of Lapis' status.

"...It isn't good to pry into a woman's secrets, little spirit." [Lapis]

"What?" [Solace]

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

So I was basically put out of commission for a day after that. Never had I thought that some people would notice me using |Analyze| on them, but I can't say I was surprised. I could only blame myself for not thinking of that sooner.

("My whole body hurts…") [Solace]

Other than that incident, I was doing my assistant duties. It was simple, bring snacks and drinks to Lapis whenever a bell was rung. Other than that, I had a lot of freetime to search her library.

"You have acquired |Enchant Lightning|." [Spirit Guide]

("Alright, next.") [Solace]

A quick read was all I needed. However, there were some books that I couldn't even understand.

"You have gained |Experience|. |Mystic Tongue| has gained a level." [Spirit Guide]

Even though I didn't understand the text sometimes, I still got some levels. It was only a matter of re-reading a few times. If it was way too hard, then it required tens of times.

I spent my days carelessly going about, until about another month passed.

"Little spirit, I'd like to bestow upon you a new job." [Lapis]

"And that is?" [Solace]

"Take care of my pets. They're in the basement." [Lapis]

The way she said it sent a chill down my spine. There wasn't any way that someone of her caliber would have normal pets.

"...What kind of pets?" [Solace]

"Just go down to the basement. There are instructions there." [Lapis]

I was hesitant to go, but I was getting paid for this.

"Fine…" [Solace]

I listened to her orders and headed down to her basement, which was pretty damn far down the tower. I never mentioned it, but it appeared that the tower had teleport stations so it's actually pretty convenient to move around.

("...I hope it's not another trick of hers.") [Solace]

I soon found myself in the "basement", which looked like a generic dungeon from a video game. Stone walls and bars meant to cage something into a room.

"Man… I should've known." [Solace]

Within those cages were large monsters. Each with their own unique look. For example: One of them looked like a giant lizard, but it had like five tongues.

("Where's the instructions Lapis mentioned?") [Solace]

I found a stone tablet embedded into the wall, so I did what anyone else would do. Read it.

Morning:

Feed the small monsters.

Mid-morning:

Feed the larger monsters.

Afternoon:

Feed the behemoths.

Feed the small monsters.

Sunset:

Feed the smaller monsters.

Feed the larger monsters.

End of day:

Feed all monsters anesthetics.

Note:

Each monster has a specific diet.

Food storage is in the back.

Remember to purify poison in their meat when harvesting materials.

All monsters must be fed by hand.

After reading the notes, there were many things that came to mind. First, it was going to be annoying to do all this. Second, I think the monsters are what I ate when I gained poison resistance. Third, I'm pretty sure this woman is insane.

("Feed the monsters by hand…?") [Solace]

Looking at the closest monster, I used |Analyze|.
