Reborn In Another World As A Spirit Familiar
Misunderstanding
I locked onto the two shadows within the woods, breathing deeply with my non-existent lungs before proceeding.
("Birthed by uh… something something! |Ashen Arrow|!") [Solace]
Though I butchered the chant, a black arrow formed before me. It flew through the air, silencing one of the goblins.
"You have gained |Experience|. |Experience| limit has been reached. You have gained a level." [Spirit Guide]
("It worked?!") [Solace]
To my surprise, the skill activated. My experiment was a huge success. Not only did it work, it seemed that I didn't need to use the chant.
("That was the first time I've killed something... but why don't I feel anything? ...I guess I really have stopped being human.") [Solace]
I was saddened to find that I didn't really care that I had taken a life, but I had other things to do.
("Let's move on.") [Solace]
Pushing away the slight sadness, I reconfirmed whether or not I needed to chant.
("|Liquid Bullet|!") [Solace]
Just as I had intended, a droplet of water appeared and shot through one of the goblins.
"You have gained |Experience|." [Spirit Guide]
The goblin dropped with a loud thud, alerting Fina.
("Oh crap.") [Solace]
Fina turned towards the noise, glancing around with caution.
"What was that…?" [Fina]
She inched towards the goblin's corpse, unknowing that it was dead. By the time she had gotten much closer, Fina realized that it was just a dead goblin.
"A… goblin?" [Fina]
As Fina looked at the goblin, I paced back and forth with anxiety.
("Please don't notice…!") [Solace]
Fina crouched down by the body, touching the wound created by my liquid bullet with a finger.
"It's fresh…?" [Fina]
As she prodded the wound, I felt the urge to cringe.
("Oh god… Why would you touch that?!") [Solace]
Quickly slicing off the goblin's right ear, Fina took it with her as she moved about. She seemed to be on high alert due to the fact that a random fresh body was found near her, so I can't really blame her for being nervous.
("Oh, she's going over to the other one.") [Solace]
Just as she did my first kill, Fina found my second. Acting as she did before, Fina took it's right ear and continued to move.
"Solace." [Fina]
As my name was called, I suddenly appeared next to her.
("Huh? It teleports me even when I'm already outside?") [Solace]
Fina looked at me with worry in her eyes. I think the unknown killer that was actually me had her a bit frightened.
"Solace, we need to leave. Make sure to stay by my side, and tap my shoulder if you see something." [Fina]
Crouching down low, she navigated through the forest. I observed the surroundings while following her as she had asked of me, but I didn't find anything worth mentioning. By the time we had exited the forest, Fina let out an exhausted sigh.
"Finally…" [Fina]
Looking over her shoulder, Fina took another look at the forest.
"I think I'm going to have to report this…" [Fina]
("Hm?") [Solace]
I didn't really get what she meant, but I figured it out later when we returned to the Adventurer's Guild.

"Mr. Burnes!" [Fina]
Passing by other people whom I'm assuming are fellow adventurers, Fina ran up to the receptionist booth Burnes was sitting at.
"Hm? Fina? Done already?" [Burnes]
"Y-yes, but-" [Fina]
"May I see the spoils?" [Burnes]
Fina opened her mouth as if she wanted to say something, but she ended up just showing him five goblin ears.
"One… two... Hm… I'll get your pay ready in just a moment." [Burnes]
Reaching under the desk, Burnes took out multiple copper colored coins and handed it to Fina.
"Here's fifty mel. Feel free to count it yourself." [Burnes]
"N-No, it's fine. I trust you." [Fina]
"Trust me?" [Burnes]
Burnes laughed at his own question, standing only to ruffle Fina's hair and to return back to his seat.
"How adorable. Fina, you're too trusting. One day someone will swindle you." [Burnes]
"What? No I'm not!" [Fina]
("Oh, he's teasing her.") [Solace]
I watched Burnes laugh as Fina pouted from anger. The mood was so lively that I couldn't help, but get absorbed in it as well.
"Haha… Anyway, do you want to wash your hands before you get home?" [Burnes]
Fina looked down at her hands with surprise. It seems that she also forgot that she stuck her fingers into that goblin's wound.
"I… I'll have to take you up on that offer…" [Fina]

On that note, we left the booth and entered a nearby women's restroom. As I am a gentleman, I made sure to close my eyes before entering.
"Hm~ Hmm~" [Fina]
I heard a cheerful tune alongside the sound of running water. Judging by the voice, I could tell it was Fina.
("Huh… I've never heard this kind of song before. I wonder what it sounds like if Fina actually sang it.") [Solace]
We exited the bathroom after a few minutes and returned to Burnes.
"Huh? You're still here?" [Burnes]
"...I still have something to tell you." [Fina]
She twiddled her fingers while looking down, making the mood seem kind of weird.
"Uh… Fina." [Burnes]
"Y-yes…?" [Fina]
"I'm… not interested in little girls." [Burnes]
Fina tilted her head with confusion. It seems that she didn't get the memo.
"O...kay?" [Fina]
"...Listen. My type is an older lady with an hourglass figure who could possibly pamper me. I'm sorry." [Burnes]
As he spoke, his expression looked a bit sad.
"Mr. Burnes…" [Fina]
"I know what you want to say. You don't have to tell me." [Burnes]
Extending a hand outward as if to say "stop", he had a look of regret.
"So… You know about what happened in the forest?" [Fina]
"...What?" [Burnes]
"I thought you said you knew what I wanted to say?" [Fina]
"Wait… Uh… Just to check, what did you want to say?" [Burnes]
"I found two freshly killed goblins within the hunting ground, but I wasn't the one who did it. I wanted to report the fact there might be a "rare" monster." [Fina]
Burnes' face dyed itself red. He seemed to be incredibly embarrassed, leading to my thought of "I saw this coming a mile away.".
"O-oh… That's what you wanted to say. I'll um… send another adventurer to go investigate it later." [Burnes]
"Mhm. What did you think I was going to say?" [Fina]
Burnes had beads of sweat sliding down his face. Honestly, I was starting to feel bad for him.
"I-it was nothing! Just go home before it gets dark!" [Burnes]
He got out of his chair and ushered Fina out of the Adventurer's Guild, waving as we walked away.
("What an awkward guy... Can't say I hate him though.") [Solace]
